Ferrari created two models in 1953: the 250 Europa and the 375 America,
which were almost identical apart from their engine displacements and
therefore their performance. The 375 was intended to be at an advantage on
the American highways. Only 12 were built and their serial numbers range
from 0293 to 0355 AL. The A in the suffix designates the type, America,
and the L, which stands for Lungo, refers to the long chassis. Pininfarina
claimed nine examples, there being nine coupes similar, except for a few
details, to the one shown at the 1953 Paris Salon. The long Lampredi V12
engine, increased to 4522cc displacement by a bore of 84 mm, was rated
at 300 hp at 6300 rpm with a compression ratio of 8:1 and three 40 mm
dual-throat Weber carburetors.
