The Devin Super Sport was the quintessential American super car of the
early 1960s. It featured many cutting edge technological advances including
4-wheel independent suspension, coil-over shocks, 4-wheel disc brakes –
in board at the rear, dual braking circuits, rack and pinion steering and
near 50/50 weight distribution. A fabricated tubular steel chassis cradled
a mid-front Corvette engine and transmission. The production run ended
up being only 15 cars (of which 12 remain) due to its US$10,000 price tag.
This car is an early “round tail” that was originally owned and raced by
John Brophy. After winning the California CM regional championship, it
went to the Midwest and was raced until the mid-1970s. Its performance
was breathtaking. A letter from John Brophy says he was timed at 163 mph
on Riverside’s back straight. After a 25 year hiatus, it was restored to its
original street configuration and is driven regularly.
