The Eagle Cup Golf Tournament was established as a result of the merging the best elements of two very prestigious golf tournaments; The Eagle Invitational and The Haber Cup. The Eagle Cup was created to be a gathering of philanthropic golfers, who share a common passion for “the spirit of giving” by raising and distributing funds to local charitable organizations. This will be a bi-annual event, the 2009 date has not yet been determined.
The tournament’s unique format allows teams to compete for a $40,000 prize purse for their selected charities. It also features The Haber Cup Putting Competition, which has been officiated by the USGA’s Ron Read. The Putting Purse begins at $5,000.
The tournament includes an awards dinner in the Peninsula Ballroom of Quail Lodge’s Clubhouse, featuring live entertainment. Winners of the day’s competition are recognized at the dinner, with 100% of the purses’ fees being donated to local charities of each winner’s choosing. The charities benefiting from the tournament in the past were: ACTION Council of Monterey County, SPCA, Hospice of Monterey County, 1st Tee of Monterey, Naval Post Graduate School Foundation, Enduring Freedom Foundation, Monterey Boys and Girls Club, and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.
